Dear Brothers and Sisters

It won't be long now—in less than a year: In 2027, our church will celebrate its 300th anniversary.

Renewed Moravian Church

300 years

On August 13, 1727, a Communion service was held at the church in Berthelsdorf which - according to tradition - brought the Herrnhuters back together in what seemed like an almost hopeless situation.

Conflicts of all kinds and seemingly irreconcilable differences had previously shaped their relationships. But then, a miracle occurred, and beginning in 1727, the united sisters and brothers began to radiate a new vitality. Not long after, they began to share their experience of reconciliation - with God and with one another - with others.

How do we want to celebrate?

For several years now, we have been on a path toward reconciliation. This process began as early as 1727: recognizing where reconciliation is needed; learning what can contribute to reconciliation; and connecting with one another.

Today, we invite you to literally set out on a journey in 2027. We’re planning a rally to celebrate our anniversary - a trip with Herrnhut and the Berthelsdorf-Church as our destination, where we plan to celebrate Holy Communion with a large gathering on August 13.

UNITY'27 - Moravians on the Move

This is the theme of the festivities in Herrnhut, which is, at the same time, just one milestone on a journey that already has a history and continues into the future. So in 2027, we’ll set out on this journey, join the ranks, come together, and move forward—together.

Preparations for the program are getting underway, and there’s plenty of room for ideas: tearing down walls instead of building them, bridging divides, clearing away obstacles, meeting on equal footing, debating respectfully, understanding one another despite language barriers, starting anew, singing, experiencing music, and getting creative.

We invite you to join us.

And we recommend that you don’t come alone, but instead make plans to come as a group - for example, with members of your partner congregations - and set out together. Perhaps you’d also like to start walking or cycling in the days leading up to the anniversary - as a pilgrimage on foot or by bike? Then you can share your experiences with reconciliation and visit places along the way that symbolize reconciliation.
No matter how you get here - we look forward to seeing you.
